Buffalo Rock Winery

A Small Town Winery with Big Time Appeal Buffalo Rock Winery

A charming winery just northwest of the Twin Cities, Buffalo Rock Winery in Buffalo MN celebrates a woman operated business. It’s located just 50 minutes from Minneapolis. It is a fun little stop.

Buffalo Rock Winery

The Buffalo Rock Winery opened during the 2010 season. The vision to build an operating winery didn’t just start there. Previous to owning a winery, the owner Nicole Dietman has worked a 9-5 job in the city with a 100-mile round trip commute each day.

She started by planting her vineyard in 2007 with a variety of grapes developed by the University of Minnesota. By 2009, the grapes were ready for harvest. She took her pole shed with dirt floors and created her first tasting room. Now it has evolved to so much more.

The winery is very charming. Outside they have a patio area overlooking the vineyard with all kinds of seating options. The best time to go is in late spring or summertime when everything is in full bloom.

As long as the weather is nice, they will be serving beverages outside to a packed crowd. If it is colder out that day, head indoors and check out some of the chocolates and locally sourced meats.

Each of their wines is inspired by something different, making them all very unique.

What I love about the Buffalo Rock Winery is that its small business is owned and operated by Nicole. She can be found, along with her staff behind the tasting counter sampling out the wines. They have a very limited distribution of their wines to stores.

If you want to find a bottle of her fabulous concoctions, you will most likely have to go to the source. It’s truly an exceptional product. While there may be a friendly and knowledgeable staff out front, she doesn’t have the help behind the scenes. Everything has been produced by Nicole.

Other Drinks and Food

In addition to wines, they also brew Beer, Hard Cider and her own special variety of Sangria that is just available on site. She also has locally sourced meats, cheeses, and chocolates to snack on as well as soda, water, Gatorade and juice boxes for those designated drivers.

The winery may seem small, but it has the potential to grow into something much larger. The exceptional staff and owners have the vision to create something magnificent. In the year since I last visited, they have grown. Soon, I expect them to be competing with the likes of Cannon River Winery and Sovereign Estates.

The winery was a great close to our trip to Buffalo this past weekend. This delightful stop was just what we needed to wind down. We were very glad we stopped. For more great wineries in the area, check out the 11 That Are Minutes from the Twin Cities.
