2017 List of New Foods at the Minnesota State Fair

My favorite part about any trip to the Minnesota State Fair is always the food. I go for many other reasons too: Reasons to go the MN State Fair. But I will plan my entire day around different food vendors. The list of new foods at the Minnesota State Fair is something I look forward to every year. This year I got the opportunity to attend a special preview day for Bloggers to get a sneak peek at some of the new foods. I am amazed at what some of these talented chefs are putting together. Here are some of the highlights.

New Foods at the Minnesota State Fair

Brown Ale & Onion-Gouda Tipsy Pie

Onions caramelized soaked in Life Bridge Brewery’s, Chestnut Hill Brown Ale with smoked Gouda cheese, baked in a pie crust, topped with the onion sugar, and drizzled with a sweet beer glaze. This has all the best parts of a French onion soup in a lightly sweet and delicious pastry. Biting into this pie is as if heaven just melted into your mouth. You can find it in the food building, south wall. #5 on the map.

Italian Bomba Sandwiches at Mancini’s al Fresco

Beer-braised pork shoulder with prosciutto ham, fontina cheese, giardiniera and aioli on a grilled ciabatta roll. This dish reminded me a lot of being back in New Orleans having a Muffuletta. Instead of an olive relish, they used a hot pepper relish. It gave it a little more heat. It was actually inspired by a Cubana but with an Italian influence. Defiantly worth checking out. They are between Carns Ave between Nelson and Underwood Street. #16 on the map.

Italian Bomba SandwichBeer Gelato

Made by the same people that brought you the Italian Bamba sandwich, this gelato is made with Hefeweizen Beer from MN’s Schells Brewery. This treat has subtle notes of banana in it too. The gelato doesn’t have enough alcohol to get a buzz off, but because the beer is not cooked off, they have made it a 21+ item. It’s up to the parents if they want to share with the little ones. The cooks at Mancini’s al Fresco are experts in their gelato combinations. At all times there are 12 varieties available, made fresh in front of everyone every 20 minutes. They rotate out their flavors daily.

Mobsters’ Caviar

Cream cheese, crab meat, green onions, fresh red peppers and water chestnut, served with warm whole-wheat flatbread. They give heaping portions in their prohibition themed eatery, The Hideaway Speakeasy. This new restaurant is in the upper level of the grandstand. #20 on the Map.

Cotton Candy Bubble Trouble

Combining some of my two favorite things, wine, and cotton candy. This magical treat is served in a champagne flute and doused with Cannon River Winery’s Sparkle Edelweiss. It’s sweet and snappy, all mixed together.  This can be picked up at The Hideaway Speakeasy too. #20 on the Map.

Pizzarito

Flour Tortilla filled with pepperoni, Italian Sausage, risotto, mozzarella and marinara, coated with garlic butter, parmesan and Italian spiced baked and served with a side of marinara. The Green Mill has created a portable sharable dish that will have you coming back for more. Green mill also has a coupon in the Coupon book for their Pizza slices. You can find them on the East Side of Cooper St between Randal and Wright at the Family Fair in Bladwin Park. #22 on the map.

Sweet Corn and Blueberry Éclair

Kernza flour éclair filled with sweet corn pastry cream and topped with a blueberry glaze. Some people may be a little scared of this one because of its purple color but tastes amazing. After my sample, I was secretly hoping that they would have extras to pass out. I will be tracking this down at the fair located on the north side of Dan Patch between Cooper and Cosgrove. #26 on the map.
