Lora Hotel

The Lora Hotel is a breathtaking property that dates back to 1848. The building was once a brewery. They retained the original stone walls and vaulted ceilings that were once part of the warehouse. They even still have a cave entrance that leads to nowhere.

The rooms range from modern to historic, utilizing the original brick structure. With rooms overlooking Stillwater’s Main street, or snag one of their suites with sofa beds and full living areas.

The Lora Hotel has everything inside you could need you don’t even need to leave the building. The Feller restaurant serves up Midwest Sources ingredients that are inspired by Minnesota’s traditional foraging and hunting culture. The Long Goodbye for cocktails and spirits and even make, the freshest coffee you’ll find.

Where to find it: The Lora Hotel is one of the first places you’ll see coming into downtown Stillwater from the Twin Cities. Built right into the side of the cliff, with the icon Stillwater Stairs right next to it and Teddy Bear Park behind it, perfect for the kids!

The Lowell Inn is a grand hotel! Seriously. The property once held a Lumberjack Housing complex before entrepreneur Elmore Lowell had his vision of holding a hotel. It was a popular place for social events.

The original hotel was rebuilt in 1927 and named the Lowell house in honor of the previous owners. Inside you’ll find Vaudevillian-styled fixtures and victorian era furniture.

The hotel has two styles of rooms available, Modern or Historic. The historic rooms take you back in time to four poster beds, velvet headboards, and sitting rooms. In the annex, they have more modern rooms that have balcony views of historic Stillwater.

They are the place to go in Stillwater for fine dining. They also serve high tea in the historic George Washington Room. Sit back and enjoy a leisurely afternoon with great drinks and snacks!

Where to find it: The Lowell Inn is set back a few blocks from Mainstreet on Myrtle Street and Second St N. Still within walking distance to all the great entertainment, shopping, and riverfront.

Water Street is the place to stay if you want a great view of the Stillwater Lift Bridge. The building got its start at a Lumber Exchange. The first occupants were lumber merchants.

The site has ten large walk-in vaults that are used to house the wealth of the elite. Today they transformed the once popular building into a beautiful hotel with the best views of the St Croix.

The rooms at the Water Street Inn do a great job of mixing historic features and modern styling. Each room has a different theme, from the Irish inspiration to the charm of the historic railroad era. The suites have canopy beds and some rooms are even pet-friendly!

Need to recharge? You gotta check out Charlie’s Restaurant and Pub! In addition to the great Irish-inspired dining, they also have a champagne brunch and breakfast menu.

The pub has a great waterfront view. But if you want to take it up a notch, you gotta check out Paps Rooftop. They have great views of the entire city and is available exclusively for hotel guests.

The Water Street Inn is conveniently located right next to the Stillwater Lift Bridge, between Main Street and the St Croix River.

Looking to refuel? Effective 2022 the Aurora Staples Inn is no longer offering breakfast service. Instead, they provide guests with vouchers to the Oasis Cafe and the Historic Lowell Inn depending on the day. Both are within walking distance.

Looking for an escape a little further from the city? You need to check out Cover Park Manor. The manor is located one mile south of the Historic Main Street in the Village of Oak Park. The house was originally made in 1850 by John Parker, an early Vermont river pilot on the St Croix River.

The bed and Breakfast have four Suites, all with double whirlpool tubs, a fireplace, a private bath, private porches, and a hot breakfast delivered to your room.

Behind the manor is a two-mile paved trail through the woods, over a bridge, and through the wetlands. The manor is also near Valley View Park which has over 100 acres with more hiking trails to explore.

William O’Brien State Park is a beautiful park to explore. They have a few different hiking trails, through the prairie land and one around the St Croix River that are beautiful any time of the year.

The park is located a few miles north of Stillwater on Highway 95, just north of past Marine on St Croix. Make sure to plan ahead, because the park fills up fast!

The Lake Elmo Park Reserve is a great place to stay near Stillwater MN. 18 miles away from downtown. Their modern campground has 80 sites all with electricity. There are modern bathroom facilities and a large play area for the kids.
