Art Filled Walls at CanCan Wonderland

Visit Can Can Wonderland Mini Golf in St Paul Minnesota

Ever since I watched Happy Gilmore refine his short game in a crazy miniature golf course, I’ve been searching for a course that came close to the level of fun Happy had.

Sure, there are tons of miniature golf courses around, but most remind me of traditional boring full-size golf courses. I wanted to find something magnificent and yet whimsical. That is why I was thrilled to find Can Can Wonderland mini golf course in St. Paul.

What is Can Can Wonderland?

Can Can Wonderland is a one-of-a-kind arts-based, kid-friendly, artist-designed, 18-hole indoor mini golf course located in the heart of St. Paul’s Creative Enterprise Zone.

Can Can Wonderland had one mission, to create a one-of-a-kind artist-designed indoor mini golf course for every age. They exceeded any expectations I had the second I walked in.

They are hidden in some dingy-looking basement of an old canning factory. At least that is what they made you think walking in.

But once downstairs it was like entering a whole other world. Everywhere I looked my eyes were being pulled into some other exciting activity.

Is Can Can Wonderland Suitable For All Ages?

Where did they get the name Can Can Wonderland?

That was inspired by the old canning factory they took over which dates back to 1889. It served as the residence of the American Can Company. The company manufactured cans for Carnation, Campbell’s Soup, Del Monte, American National Can, and others.

In 1999, the American Can Company received the prestigious “Can of the Year” award for their production of the iconic two-piece Spam can, another product hailing from the same state.

Can Can Wonderland Mini Golf

Can Can Wonderland mini golf course has 18 holes, each designed by different artists. With names like Music Mountain, Natural Disaster, and Blue Toad, you know they are going to be incredible.

The holes struck the right balance between a challenge and traditional elements.

Some of my favorite holes were Grand Slam, Grandma’s Living Room, Music Mountain, and Tundra Twister.

Can Can Wonderland has two different stages where local artists perform most nights. Their most popular event is the Variety Show, a 21+ event every Thursday night from 9–11 p.m.

The talented local artists perform short acts that include singers, musicians, aerialists, burlesque, drag, dance, comedy, improv, juggling, mime, and more. At the end of the night, the crowd votes on their favorite act to win a $100 prize.

Most weekends the stages have live performances. Check out Can Can Wonderland’s events page for the full listing.

What to eat at Can Can Wonderland?

The fun doesn’t stop there. Their whimsical nature shows up in their food and drink offerings.

The full bar features drinks like Strip & Go Naked, Brain Freeze in the Afternoon, and Green Way Garden Punch.

They also have old-fashioned sodas for younger visitors, made-from-scratch pizza, sundaes, and every kind of hot dog style imaginable.

Where to park at Can Can Wonderland?

Can Can Wonderland has a few different places to park. First is right out front, a small lot. If that’s full there is a ramp underneath, which is also fairly small and tight.

If you have a truck, avoid the ramp. Honestly, both on-site options get busy.

Instead, park across the street. There are two lots open to the public across from Can Can. They’re easier to get into and can handle larger vehicles. Parking is free.

Tips for visiting Can Can Wonderland

  • Arrive early on weekends; wait times for mini golf can build.
  • Bring a small group. Six people per hole max runs smoother.
  • Use the across-the-street lots for easier parking.
  • Plan time for the arcade. Games are included with the cover charge.
  • Check the events page for live shows and the Thursday Variety Show.
