I absolutely love the Hayward Wi area. I’ve been going up there since I was a kid once or twice a year to enjoy the Town of Hayward.

My dad loved the trail system. He’d constantly be on the amazing biking trails and we’d all bike from the campground into town. My mom and I would work a craft booth in Hayward’s busy main street.

Go hiking, fat tire biking, or camping or snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, depending on the season. The forest is home to a range of wildlife, from black bears to bald eagles. I can personally attest to seeing a black bear cubs up there. 

Go fishing and catch a glimpse of a musky on Lake Hayward

Lake Hayward is a popular destination for anglers that come to the area to catch musky, walleye, and bass.

During a fishing expedition, be sure to keep an eye out for the giant muskies that abound in the lake. These elusive fish can be difficult to catch, so be sure to bring your angling skills and some patience.

The Hall of Fame has a big outdoor museum with a giant fish statue and a recreated old fishing village. Inside you’ll find over 300 mounted fish and about 1000 antique motors on display. You’ll also find over 50,000 sport fishing historical and vintage artifacts ranging from lures, rods, reels and accessories. 

Make sure to visit the Shrine to Anglers, the hand-sculpted leaping Muskellunge. Inside its jaw, 20 people can fit, plus you get a panoramic view of Hayward.

Pro Tip: Give yourself an hour here. There are so many great selfie spots and hidden places to explore. The place doesn’t allow dogs. We had to cut our trip short because we had to leave ours in the car.
