Located off Highway 33, it is your gateway to North Country. It was my husband that turned me on to Gordy’s. He described it as the original greasy spoon. Gordy’s is made famous by the fresh hand-patties hamburgers and their homemade onion rings.

Driving by, I knew I was in for something special. The outside was jam-packed with cars. There was an excited hum by the people lined up outside the restaurant just to put their orders in.

What is Gordy’s Hi Hat?

Nestled in the heart of Cloquet, Minnesota, Gordy’s has earned a reputation as a beloved local establishment. With a history dating back to 1958, this restaurant has been serving up classic American comfort food with a side of nostalgia.

The owners, Gordy and Marilyn Lindquist first opened an A&W Root Beer Stand. A short 10 years later they decided to create their own restaurant.

For the longest time they stuck to the old ways of doing things on a paper and pen. But since the kids took over, it’s got a bit of a modern upgrade to the ordering system. Don’t worry, everything else stays the same.

Step inside Gordy’s and you’ll be transported to a cozy diner-style setting that oozes charm.

The restaurant’s vintage aesthetics and friendly staff create an inviting ambiance that’s perfect for families, friends, and solo diners alike.

Delicious Menu at Gordy’s Hi Hat

One glance at the menu and you’ll be tempted by all the mouthwatering options.

From burgers to shakes. Sink your teeth into their signature cheeseburgers, hand-battered onion rings, and flavorful fish sandwiches.

Their fish sandwich is a prime example of great food. With thick breading that’s both crispy and satisfying, this sandwich is a seasonal favorite that’s not to be missed.

Pair it with hand-battered onion rings and you’ll be transported back in time.

I absolutely love their wild rice veggie burger, with a side of deep-fried mushrooms.

You can get a burger done up any way you like, with a thick bun. You can even get a homemade coney dog.

Looking for something sweet? Don’t miss their homemade ice cream milkshakes, a delightful treat to satisfy your cravings. It’s a pick and choose as to what combination of shake to take with you.
