The landing in Shakopee MN

The Landing in Shakopee | A Historic River Town with Trails

The Landing in Shakopee is one of the city’s best-kept secrets. School children from the southwest metro usually get to visit the Landing at least once during their tenure, but beyond that, most people don’t even think to find out what’s past the fences.

The park looks gated off and secluded, but actually, the grounds are open to the public for free every day from 5am-10pm. On a whim, I grabbed my youngest to explore it with fresh eyes.

The Landing in Shakopee

The landing depicts life for 19th century Minnesotan’s as they settled along the Minnesota River. It’s run and maintained by the Three River Park District.

During special events, you can catch people dressed up and giving tours. They do special events and natural programs throughout the year. What surprised me the most was getting to see a variety of animals on the farm, giving it a real town feel.

The landing has overlooks of the Minnesota River along with a one-mile trail that takes guests behind the rest of the landing homes.

Tips for the Landing in Shakopee

Download the Map to your phone before you go. They do have a copy of the map at the entrance to the park.

To hike the river trail, start at the overlook in the village. It’s hard to find from the other side. You may also want some bug spray depending on the season.

Bring your bike and explore the area.

Get there early in the morning to see the animals grazing.

Yes, this was such a treat to explore. I got there and had my own private viewing of this amazing area. It was surreal. I would love to explore during one of their many historical holiday events. Make sure to check out other fun things to do in Shakopee MN.
