Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats – Making the most of your Halloween

Valleyfair is home to some of the best Halloween festivities around. From costume contests to gross-out challenges, there’s something for everyone. But with so many things to do, it can be hard to know where to start. Here are some tips on how to make the most of your Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats visit this Halloween.

For years Valleyfair’s been home to Valleyscare. A family-friendly adventure theme park during the day and a thrilling haunted experience at night.

This year, they are redesigning the experience to make it family-friendly the whole time. This allows the whole family to have a great time. I was thrilled to get to go see it firsthand. Here is a bit about all the fun hiding inside.

Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats: What to expect

You’ll get all the same rides that Valleyfair has during the summer, with the exception of the water rides for obvious reasons. There are also magical areas for the family to enjoy.

Keep an eye out for entertainment stages everywhere. Make sure to stick around for the 6:30 pm Incantations. At that point, the worlds light up!

The Land of Tricks

Ickyville – All things gross, slimy, crawly, sinking, and more. Watch the live game show, ‘The Gross Out Gauntlets” where you can try different flavored jelly beans.

Listen to music from the zombie band called the Snots. Located near the Wave.

Spooky Spires – A 1920s village locals that are dying to hang out with you. There’s a disco party and carnival games. Join the Scream contest with the Cream Boottler.

Check out some of the great displays and dance to a silent dance party. Spooky Spires is between the Monster and just before you get to Planet Snoopy.

The Land of Treats

Everfall – A fun area with glowing candles, pumpkin spice, and cozy flannel. It’s all things you love about fall wrapped into one.

You can enjoy campfire s’mores, pumpkin decorating, rock painting, and a wagon ride through the hay. They also have all the delicious fall foods nearby. Starting by the Bumper Cars to the Arcade.

Sweet Tooth Acres – Down on the farm of candy corn and lollipop trees. All the sweets you’d expect in Candyland are hiding here.

Pick up a Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats bag at the entrance near the front of the park. Then find doors to knock and see if there is a trick or treat behind them all. Located where all the midway games are.

How to make the most of your Halloween: Tips and tricks.

  • Weare a Costume. Everything is more fun when you get into the spirit! More on that later.
  • Valleyfair is cashless. Bring a credit or debit card with you. If you don’t have one, no worries, you can convert your cash when you get there.
  • Make sure to do some of the great entertainment and free stuff like Pumpkin decorating and making masks.
  • Bring a water bottle and fill up on free water. It’s a great way to save a few dollars.
  • Valleyfair has a strict bag size policy after 6pm. You can still bring it in during the day. After that nothing bigger than 6.5″ x 4.5″ by 2″ will be allowed in.

TIP: Bring in a Water bottle and you’ll have free liquid all day long. The Hydro Flasks are my favorite because they keep everything cool! Check out the price online.

The best food for Halloween: Which foods will give you the most energy for a night of fun?

In addition to the great Halloween party activities, you can also try some Halloween-inspired treats that come out at night. Each land has its own special foods. Here are some of my favorites to keep an eye out for.

What to eat?

The Counts Cooking – Spicy bean chili with cheddar cornbread. Don’t worry, it’s MN spice with the perfect amount of spice to make it chili without leaving your mouth on fire.

The Blood Bag Empanada – an empanada stuffed with tomato sauce, cheese, and sausage. It takes like a delicious meatball inside!

Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake – Chocolate funnel cake topped with raspberry preserves, cookies, and cream frosting, and gummy worms.

Trick or Treat Dessert – A layered cookie crumbs, cheesecake filling, peanut butter cups, M&M’s, and chopped nuts.

What to drink?

Don’t worry, there is plenty to drink too. Both are adult and great cocktails for the kids too!

Spiced Cider – Apple cider infused with cinnamon, cloves, allspice, ginger, and warmed. You can bewitch it with Fireball or keep it virgin!

Hocus Pocus – Fanta Orange with black cherry and a gummy worm garnish. Bewitch it with Vodka

A Positive Blood Bag – A positively delicious infusion of vanilla vodka, pineapple juice, cranberry, and grenadine.

The best costumes for Halloween: How to dress to impress at Valleyfair

Get into the spirit and dress in a costume! I recommend something that’s not reserved so you can still enjoy all the rides! I opted to be Waldo. My youngest wore a pirate hat and my daughter had some cat ears!

Skip the tutus and anything that might get caught on a ride. Accessories get in the way and anything resembling a weapon isn’t permitted.

Costume masks are only permitted for kids, 12 and under. They must have a full range of visibility in them.

The best rides at Valleyfair: Which rides are the best for getting your thrills?

What I love about Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats is they have something for every thrill level. From bumper cars and train rides to Wild Thing.

Traditionally this is one of the best times to enjoy the park. Not only do you not have the summer heat to contend with, but you can get onto rides after. Even if the line is longer, waiting in line is not that big of a deal!

My favorite – Is the corkscrew. It was my very first upside-down rollercoaster and may have been my first big rollercoaster. It’s always held a special place in my heart. It’s always got a short line and a smooth ride.

Don’t forget to check out the midway section. It’s got a couple of great rides there too, like the tilt-a-whirl and the scrambler!

Would I go back to Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats?

I had a great time at Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats. It’s a great alternative to some of the scarier attractions around town. I definitely felt the metro was lacking an experience like this.

They are all either geared towards really little kids or too scary. This is perfect for the in-between stage of Halloween with something for everyone. While I will miss Valleyscare, they did a great job and I will definitely be back!
