Cell Phone Waiting Area MSP Airport

New Cell Phone Waiting Lot Opens at MSP Airport Just in Time for Busy Thanksgiving Travel

The airport in Minneapolis-St. Paul opened an additional cell phone waiting lot this week to accommodate more drivers picking up arriving passengers for the busy Thanksgiving travel season. The new parking area provides over double the capacity of the original lot.

More Space Needed for Holiday Pickups

The first waiting lot near Terminals 1 and 2 could only fit around 40 vehicles. With Thanksgiving travel expected to reach near pre-pandemic levels, the airport required expanded pickup parking.

The recently opened lot offers parking for up to 100 cars. The increased capacity will reduce congestion and simplify pickups during the Thanksgiving rush.

Convenient Option to Await Flyers

Cell phone waiting lots permit drivers to idle for free until passengers call or text that they have their bags and are ready for retrieval. Drivers can then head straight to the terminal pickups without circling or paying for short-term parking.

The new addition is conveniently situated close to the original lot, giving drivers two nearby choices. More total spaces means less competition for spots from other waiting drivers.

Located Near Terminal 1 Lindbergh

The new cell phone waiting lot sits just south of Post Road, making it closest to Terminal 1 Lindbergh. The original lot remains near Terminals 1 and 2. Between both lots, arriving travelers can easily meet up with their rides regardless of terminal.

For large groups with multiple waiting drivers, using both lots may be best. Close proximity to assigned terminals simplifies coordinating pickups.

Other Parking Options at MSP

In addition to the two cell phone waiting lots, MSP offers various parking options for travelers and drivers:

  • Short-term parking garages – Close to terminals but pricey for longer stays
  • Long-term Value parking – Shuttle required but more affordable for multi-day parking
  • Travelers can also get picked up or dropped off right at the terminal curbs

During peak times like Thanksgiving, the airport may open overflow parking areas if the main garages fill up. Travelers should allow extra time to navigate larger crowds.

Plan Ahead for a Smooth Airport Experience

With Thanksgiving travel bouncing back to near pre-pandemic levels, drivers should take advantage of the new East Cell Phone Waiting Lot for a hassle-free passenger pickup. The lot makes coordinating with incoming flyers even easier.

Travelers arriving at MSP for Thanksgiving should also plan ahead and allow extra time to navigate the busy terminals and roads around the airport. With proper preparation, the holiday airport rush doesn’t have to be stressful. Just focus on the joyful reunions and celebrations ahead!
