Cossetta’s St. Paul Old World Italian | The Best Food in Town
Craving old-world Italian without the price tag? Head to Cossetta’s Alimentari in St. Paul. We found it during a day in the city after a failed attempt at Back to the 50s. Parking was a mess, so we pivoted to lunch. It turned into a great St. Paul dining find.

About Cossetta’s
Cossetta’s has been part of St. Paul since 1911. It started as a small food market on 7th Street. Today, it’s a multi-level spot with an Italian market, bakery, eatery, and catering in one building.
On the third floor, you’ll find Louis Ristorante & Bar. It’s a casual sit-down restaurant with a slightly elevated feel. They opened in 2013 and serve many of the same flavors you’ll find downstairs, with a polished touch.
What to Eat
Eatery & Pizzeria (Main Level)
Order at the counter, grab a tray, and move through the line. It’s fast and friendly.
- Pizza by the slice (huge)
- Fresh salads made to order
- Hot and cold sandwiches
- Classic pastas
We shared a giant slice and a spinach salad. Simple, fresh, and tasty.
Pasticceria (Bakery + Gelato)
Follow your nose to the pastry case. The cannolis are the star. Gelato is a win too. The bakery scent alone could pull you in from the street.
Alimentari (Italian Market)
Stock up on imported pantry items, specialty ingredients, and fresh meats. If you like to cook Italian at home, this is your spot.
Atmosphere and Seating
Cossetta’s sits near the Xcel Energy Center, so it’s perfect before a game or museum visit. Step inside and it feels old-world and warm. There’s some seating on the main level, but most tables are upstairs. On nice days, grab a balcony seat and people-watch.

Parking Tips
They offer free parking in the lot behind the restaurant. From 7th Street, turn onto Chestnut, then take the first right to the attended lot. It’s a gift if you don’t love downtown parking.
