Roseau, Minnesota is a small town located in the northern part of the state, but don’t let its size fool you. It has become a popular tourist destination due to its many attractions. From exploring the town and county to playing golf and going fishing, Roseau has something for everyone.

I got the opportunity to spend some time in Roseau a few summers back when we were checking out some of the state parks in the area. One thing’s for sure, it was a fun stop just ten minutes from the Canadian border!

Riverview Outdoors and Recreation (ROAR)

What to try your hand at Axe Throwing? Make sure to stop into ROAR. They have four different targets for Axe Throwing. 

If you are looking to do some biking or water activates and need gear, check out the selection at Riverview Outdoors and Recreation.

They have Bikes, Kayaks, Paddleboards, Floating Docks, River Tubes, Canoes, snowshoes and more. Plus, with their knowledge of the area, they’ll be able to guide you to the best spots for adventure. 

What are some fun outdoor activities in Roseau?

Roseau Oakcrest Golf Course

The Roseau Oakcrest Golf Course is one of the top golf courses in northern Minnesota. The course features 18 holes of golf and is open from May through October. Whether you’re an experienced golfer or a beginner, the course is sure to provide a fun and challenging experience.

Polaris Industries, the maker of snowmobiles and ATVs

Polaris Industries is a well-known company that makes snowmobiles and ATVs. Visitors to Roseau can take a tour of the Polaris Industries factory and learn about how these machines are made.

Tours are offered during the week. 

Polaris Experience Center

You can walk into the Polaris Experience Center Museum and see the evolution of the snowmobiles and some of the very first models.

It’s a fun and educational experience that’s perfect for both kids and adults.

Go fishing at one of the various lakes in the area

There are numerous lakes in and around Roseau that are perfect for fishing. Visitors can catch a variety of fish, including walleye, northern pike, and bass. It’s a fun outdoor activity that’s perfect for families or groups of friends.

Roseau River

Paddle down the Roseau River. Drop your kayaks or canoes at the City Park on the Roseau River and head towards the south. You can also tube it! The ride takes you through the bends and curves of the river. Get out once you reach Malung. 

Roseao County Fair

The third Sunday of July, you have to check out the Roseau County Fair. With carnival rides, parades, livestock, demolition Derbys, fireworks and so much more.

The Fair runs Sunday through Friday, so plan your summer vacation ahead of time!

Mount Roseau Mountain Bike Trails

No, there isn’t an actual mountain. But it was made from dirt left over from a river diversion system used to protect the city from flooding. They have transformed this into one of the best single-track mountain bike trails within two-hour drive of northeastern Minnesota.

The Mount Roseau Mountain Bike Trails offer 6 miles of single track, ranging from advanced to easy difficulty. This man-made mountain is 60 feet tall and offers 250 feet of elevation gain per lap. Riders can enjoy switchback climbs and a thrilling downhill jump. 

Search for wild blueberries

Beltrami Forest is full of abundant blueberries during July. Don’t forget your empty containers and spend the afternoon in the serene forest gathering fresh blueberries. Fill up your pails with these wild berries.

Just make sure to save some for your pie baking activity at home – nothing beats the taste of freshly picked blueberries! 

Roseau Powersport Park

Roseau Powersport Park, also known as Roseau ATV Park, is a thrilling recreational facility located in northern Minnesota.

The park offers a range of exciting activities, including ATV and dirt bike riding, and snowmobiling. The park has 25 carvers of track system for off-road vehicles, motocross and snowmobiles.

It was developed with a group of engineer’s form Polaris. Today it is the only four-season public power sports park.

Watch a movie at the Roso Theater

The Roso Theater is a historic movie theatre that’s been entertaining visitors since the 1930s. Visitors can watch the latest movies and enjoy popcorn and other snacks.

It’s a great way to unwind after a day of exploring the town and its many attractions.

Enjoy arcade games at Arcade Inc

Arcade Inc is another fun indoor activity for families. The arcade features a variety of games, including classic arcade games and newer games. It’s a great place to have fun and make memories with family and friends.

Pioneer Farm & Village

The Pioneer Farm and Village is a fun are that host events all year round, including museum. You’ll also see it transformed into a holiday light display in December.

The Pioneer Farm and village has a one-room schoolhouse, a print shop, mercantile and church.

Historical Roseau

South Riverview Park Splash Pad

Cool off at the South River Park Splash Pad this summer. The splash pad is open daily between 10 am and 9 pm. With slides and bucket drops, the kids will have a great time!

Roseau Memorial Arena

It wouldn’t be Minnesota, without mentioning the towns deep roots in Hockey. The town of Roseau has actually produced 8 HNL players.

They include, Neal Broten, Aaron Broten, Byran Erickson, Paul Broten, Earl Anderson, Aaron Ness, Dale Smedsmo, and Mike Baumgatner.

You can visit the Memorial Arena that dates back to the 1940’s. There are also a couple other Skate Rinks, used by the community, the North Rink and the Roseau Ram’s Sport Center.

Earl’s Drive In

Earl’s Drive In is a popular fast-food restaurant located in Roseau. They offer a variety of delicious food items including burgers, chicken, and BBQ ribs. Earl’s is also well known for their mouth-watering ice cream treats and shakes. It’s the perfect spot for a quick and tasty meal.

Make sure to get there early. We arrived around noon and there wasn’t a spot in sight.

Brickhouse Restaurant & Bar

Located in the heart of Roseau, Brickhouse Restaurant & Bar is housed in the iconic Reed River Trading Company building, adding to its historic charm. Known for its contemporary menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, the restaurant offers a unique dining experience in a cozy atmosphere.

What other attractions can be found near Roseau?

Riverbend Skate Path

It is the longest skate path in Minnesota. Technically 30 minutes away in Warroad River. The path is over 5 miles long and connected to several outdoor skating rinks.

Lake of the Woods

You are just a few shore miles away from Lake of the Woods. It is a large freshwater lake located in the northernmost region of Minnesota, close to the Canadian border.

The lake is surrounded by stunning scenery, including numerous islands, bays, and peninsulas. You’ll find walleye, northern pike, and crappie.

The nearby town of Roseau offers plenty of amenities, such as lodging and dining options for those who wish to stay and explore the area.

Greenbush Race Park

Some of the smaller race tracks can be the most fun. We stumbled upon Greenbush Race Park just a few miles west of Roseau. This small dirt track in home to some great races. Most Saturday nights during the summer, you’ll hear the engines rumbling. 

Northern Most Tenuous of the Continental United States

The northernmost tenuous of the Continental United States is located in Roseau, Minnesota. This is the point where the 49th parallel north intersects with the 96th meridian west.

This northern angle is marked by a small monument, which signifies the end of the contiguous United States in the northern direction.
