A Weekend in the Twin Cities

Your Weekend Itinerary for the Twin Cities

The Twin Cities covers such a large area, you want to make the most of your limited time. Before you start a weekend in the Twin Cities filled with fun, you have to have a good home base.

We started our adventure at the Courtyard Marriott in Roseville because it is only a 10-minute drive from both Minneapolis and St. Paul. Our weekend itinerary for the Twin Cities was jam packed with fun.

*This post was sponsored by the Roseville Visitors Association. I received free admission to these places in exchange for a post. Like all of my posts, the opinions are all my own.

Weekend Itinerary for the Twin Cities

Como Zoo

Start out at the only free zoo in Minnesota, the Como Zoo. It has been part of the community for over 100 years. They host a large number of animals, a conservatory, and a miniature amusement park.

This place will keep you busy for hours. Some of my favorite activities are the Seal Show, watching the polar bear swim and hanging out in the conservatory.

The zoo is run by donations from zoo visitors, charitable donations, food sales and by the government. For extra fun, take one of their Zoo Tours that start before they open. You’ll get the opportunity to meet some fun animals!

CanCan Wonderland

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if artists designed a Miniature Golf Course? Can Can Wonderland put’s it to the test!

They have designed an indoor 18 hole miniature golf course. They brought together a variety of different local and regional artists to create unique pieces of entertainment.

Can Can Wonderland is open year-round and is family friendly. Their bar is filled with creative cocktails and food. More pinball machines than you know what to do with and loads of ongoing entertainment.

Walker Art Centers Sculpture Garden

The Walker Art Centers Sculpture Garden just reopened this summer. It has been going through a major renovation. It now features 40 works of art including the iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry. The park covers 19 acres and is considered a fan favorite in Minneapolis.

My favorite pieces to check out are the Hahn/Cock and the Two-way Mirror Punched Steel Hedge Labyrinth. The sculpture garden is open year-round. I’m hoping to get down there again in the Fall, Winter, and Spring to see how the garden changes through the seasons.

Science Museum of Minnesota

The Science Museum of Minnesota was always every kid’s favorite field trip grown up and for good reason. There are so many interactive exhibits for everyone to play with. As a grown up, we spend a little more time figuring out why the things do what they do.

While I was there, they had their Sportsology exhibit on display. We got to test our reaction times and find out just how high we can jump.

There were also the traditional exhibits like the Dinosaurs, The Mississippi River, and the Experiment Gallery. There is so much to explore.

If you have time, go to their iMax movies. It will give you and your kids some much needed chill time.

Minnesota State Fair

No weekend in the Twin Cities would be complete without stopping at the MN State Fair. We Minnesotans take our fair pretty seriously. It is the highest-attended fair in the country. Anything and everything can be found on a stick, for maximum portability.

Some highlights of the fair are the Food, Midway, finding the biggest Fruits and Veggies grown, and of course the great entertainment.

My favorite is checking out what’s at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell Tonight. The fair only runs during the last 12 days of summer and always ends on Labor Day. For more info on what to do check out: Top 5 Reasons To Visit The MN State Fair

Your weekend in the Twin Cities will be filled with all kinds of fun things. Between daytime activities, waterways and nightlife, you will always be moving.

Some other great things to check out is the Mall of America with their tax free shopping on all clothing and Bent Brewstillery who brews both Craft Beers and Spirits.

If you need more inspiration, check out some of the other places I’ve visited in the Meto. I hope you have a great time in the Twin Cities, I know I have!
